Work of the Heart: Reconnecting to Prayer
It is often a struggle to connect to the words and experience of tefillah (prayer). This course will take a closer look at different services, sections, passages, and words of prayer in order to better understand how each one can contribute to our experience of prayer. Through taking a closer look at the familiar words of tefillah, we will explore larger questions of: How can we relate to God and ourselves through tefillah? How can we bring our doubts and questions to tefillah? How can tefillah help us rethink what we are doing in the world? Why pray at all? We will look in-depth at passages from tefillah through the lens of ancient, medieval, and modern thinkers as a way of exploring the meaning of tefillah in our lives.
