Rabbi David Silber

David Silber is the founder and dean of Drisha Institute for Jewish Education in New York and Israel. Rabbi Silber received ordination from the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary. He is a recipient of the Covenant Award, for excellence in innovative Jewish education, and is the author of A Passover Haggadah: Go Forth and Learn (Jewish Publication Society 2011), For Such a Time as This: Biblical Reflections in the Book of Esther (Koren Publishers 2017), and Malkhut Adam: Iyunim Bsefer Shmuel (Maggid 2021). He is also a nationally acclaimed lecturer on the Bible. Rabbi Silber is married to Dr. Devora Steinmetz. They have eight children and live in New York City.

Rabbi Alex Israel teaches Tanakh at Yeshivat Eretz Hatzvi, Midreshet Lindenbaum and Matan, and director of Community Education, Summer Programs, and the Elmad online learning platform at the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies.

Born and raised in London, Rabbi Israel moved to Israel in 1991 and received S’micha (Rabbinic ordination) from the Israeli Chief Rabbinate following several years of study at Yeshivat Har Etzion. Rabbi Israel holds degrees from London School of Economics, the Institute of Education, London, and Bar Ilan University.

His first book “I Kings – Torn in Two” was published in 2013 to great acclaim, and its companion volume “II Kings – In a Whirlwind” in 2019. Rabbi Israel has lectured widely at campuses and communities on five continents. His writings may be found at www.alexisrael.org.

Dr. Sarit Kattan Gribetz

Sarit Kattan Gribetz teaches rabbinic literature and Jewish Studies at Fordham University in New York City. She received her B.A. and Ph.D. from Princeton University, studied Talmud and archaeology as a Fulbright Fellow at the Hebrew University, was a post-doc at Harvard University and the Jewish Theological Seminary, taught at the University of Toronto and Andover Newton Theological School, and most recently spent a year as a research fellow at the Israel Institute for Advanced Study in Jerusalem. She is currently completing a book titled Time and Difference in Rabbinic Judaism, under contract with Princeton University Press. Sarit also writes about Jews in the Roman Empire, Jewish-Christian relations, women and gender, and bringing ancient texts into contemporary classrooms. She lives in Riverdale with her husband, Jonathan, and their three children.

Stu Halpern

Stu Halpern serves on the staff and faculty of Drisha. He holds an EdD from the Azrieli Graduate School of Jewish Education and Administration of Yeshiva University, an MA in Psychology in Education from Teachers College at Columbia University, an MA in Bible from the Bernard Revel Graduate School of Jewish Studies at Yeshiva University, and a BA from the University of Pennsylvania. He is the editor or co-editor of 13 books, most recently Books of the People: Revisiting Classic Works of Jewish Thought, and has taught at Yeshiva University, and in synagogues, Hillels, and adult educational settings throughout the US.

Rabbi Dr. Erin Leib Smokler

Erin Leib Smokler is the Director of Spiritual Development and Internship Coordinator at Yeshivat Maharat, where she teaches Chassidut and Pastoral Torah. She earned her PhD and MA from the University of Chicago’s Committee on Social Thought, her BA from Harvard University, and studied in Drisha’s Scholars Circle. She previously served as Assistant Literary Editor of The New Republic magazine, and her writing has appeared there as well as in The New York Times Book Review, The Jerusalem Report, and The Jewish Week.

David Flatto

David Flatto is an assistant professor of law, religion, and history at Penn State Law. He has a PhD in Jewish Studies from Harvard University and a JD from Columbia Law School, and received ordination from the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary. He has written and lectured on Maimonides, Jewish legal philosophy, and the critical and historical study of rabbinics.

Rachel Furst

Rachel Furst is a post-doctoral fellow at the Freie Universitaet Berlin, having completed her PhD in Medieval Jewish History at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.  She received a BA in Medieval Studies from Barnard College and an MA in Jewish History from Hebrew University and is a graduate of the Advanced Talmud Institute at Matan. Rachel teaches Jewish history, Jewish law, and rabbinic literature at institutions in Israel and abroad.
