Consolation is a fundamental longing of the human soul – yet it remains an enigma. Through a study of the notion of consolation, both in Western philosophy (from Plato and Boethius to Leibniz and Nietzsche) and in Judaism (from the Torah, Lamentations and Job to modern Jewish thinkers), we explore its relation to religion.
